Love this: "I have worked in local governments for a long time. My experience is that when you sit in the office, you see lots of problems. But when you reach out to the people, you see all kinds of solutions."
What I observe in governments in Australia is the opposite. They are increasingly dominated by 'wet behind the ears' academics, out of touch with reality and unable to appreciate the impact of what they are doing on a community. Then of course, there is the impact of outside consultants who are little better, tending to tune their recommendations to what they perceive their political paymasters want to hear.
Worst of all politicians that bend with the swaying grass of what the media is proclaiming they should be doing.
Is it any wonder that the major parties are losing support and election results tend to be a big surprise to everyone.
And all this against a background of widening inequality. Wealth accumulating in fewer hands.
So, I look at what is happening in China with great interest.
